No Truck Tailgate Needed

No words can describe the insanity that "tailgating" has become.
You don't need a tailgate, just some beer and horde of crazy fans.
Well, come to mention it, a little Bar-b-Que never hurts. Oh, and a tent is good. Ooops, forgot to mention the big screen TV in your tent to catch up on the other football scores. Yeah, and games for the kids. Dessert. Comfy chairs. Matching wardrobe.
That is all you need.

Real Men Learn to Sew

The past month at Studio 658 has been a blast, we had our first "Real Man Sewing Class"!
Some sailing friends of mine changed gears and applied themselves to the task of leaning how to sew. So now, on the weekends, in addition to talking about sailing all the time, we can talk sewing too. They can throw around their new sewing lingo, such as: "stitch in the ditch", (I think this is John's favorite) bias binding, grainline, and selvedge edge.

In 4 classes they accomplished an amazing list of projects. Including: a round fabric bucket, a zipper pouch, jean hemming, John made a skirt for his Goddaughter and Tom made a grill cover for his boat grill. They also dabbled in piping and bias binding. Whew.
They both get an A+!

There Is Some Light

I spent the weekend at my Mom and Dad's while my Mom had her breast cancer surgery on Friday. All went well, and in the breast cancer lingo, she is a survivor.
I had a few moments by myself at their house on Saturday morning, and light was streaming in from everywhere. It felt just right, and summed up how I feel, like now there is light at the end of this tunnel.

Miscellaneous Notes From the Sewing Room OR I uploaded all the pictures in the wrong order

Purses are hanging from every hook and stacked in every corner.

I broke down and ordered my own grommeter.

The sweaters are still piled high, but the purses are catching up....

I'll be returning the official grommet setter to my friend soon.

Eric indulges in a little bit of drama after helping me cut apart my recently felted sweaters.

Bad Weather Lately

We had a little spin off tornado hit my son's school a few weeks ago when hurricane Fay was rumbling through our small town. Nobody was hurt, there was a little damage to the school air conditioning system and some trees down in the area, but all in all, no major damage.

Back at home, it seems I had a little thread tornado rumble through my sewing room, and Juicy Bug got all tangled up. I rescued her, and she stands guard once again. No major damage here either.

It Took Me Awhile to Notice

Do you have a habit of saving shopping bags from your favorite stores?
Last time I went to New York, I scored two cool bags. One from Mood, and the other from M&J Trim. I love carrying around my Mood bag full of fabrics because someone will inevitably ask me "have you been to Mood, like Mood, from Project Runway?"

I started using my M &J Trim bag to pass projects back and forth to my friend Mary who has been helping me with some occasional handwork. I put the supplies in the bag, Alex takes it to work on his motorcycle, gives it to Geoff (Mary's husband) who takes it to Mary. When she is finished, we repeat the process in reverse. Well ,the little M&J trim bag was doing a lot of travelling so I gave it a rest until a week ago when I put some handwork in it to take to the boat.

We were sitting in the cockpit relaxing and I pulled out my handwork to get started when I realized there was something funny about the bag. It took me awhile to notice that Mary had done a little altering on the bag.

M & J Trim, had turned into M & K Trim.

Very funny!

Some Scary Sightings This Weekend

Jordi was spotted on the boat this weekend. He was held hostage for a day and forced to go sailing and tell us about dorm life. That is possibly why he decided to back to college a day early.

And of course, we had the requisite fun with a flashlight.
